JAMES FULLARTON
Born in Glasgow, James Fullarton studied at the Glasgow School of Art under David Donaldson, Alexander Goudie and Duncan Shanks. Since 1969 he has been painting full-time, living and working in Ayrshire. He is a regular exhibitior at The Royal Scottish Academy and The Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts and shows regularly in London. James Fullarton is essentially a modern day Colourist, he enjoys painting in the West of Scotland, using a broad palette with colour always the dominant feature. His subject matter includes landscape, portraiture and still life executed in both oil and acrylic. He is best-known for his wonderful still lifes of poppies, marguerites etc vigorously rendered with broad, powerful strokes on large canvases. They speak as much of the process of painting itself and of the feelings this brings out in the painter, as it does of the source of inspiration and colour before him.
His work hss been acquired for many public, corporate and private collections

ALAN DAVIE CBE HRSA
Currently on display we have a brush drawing on paper entitled Mystic Tree by arguably one of Scotland's most influential artists of the last century. Still painting at the age of 92, Alan is working on a major piece which he has been painting of the last 10 years. This piece is instantly recognisable as one of his later works in black and white. (27 X 33 CM + frame)
JACK KNOX RSW RSA RGI
An interesting original oil entitled 'Cheese' measuring 25 x 30 cm + frame.
A skilled draughtsman who has produced a varied body of work, Knox is known for his sensuous use of colour. In the mid 1960s, he produced his Studio series of canvases using mixed media and ‘stream of consciousness’ imagery. These were followed by square white canvases covered with symbols. However, it was a visit to a Dutch museum that motivated Knox’s subsequent change of artistic direction to produce lusciously coloured images of food. It was the combination of seeing Dutch still life painting and noticing the way that the food in the cafeteria was presented as if framed and on display that provided the inspiration. Knox was born in Kirkintilloch and studied at Glasgow School of Art, where he later became Head of Drawing and Painting.
