Shazia Mahmood

Shazia Mahmood gained her BA in Fine Art Painting in 1996 and followed this with an MA in European Fine Art, since then she has devoted her time to the exploration of a very specific and quite unique type of painting known as chromatography.

Shazia has travelled extensively throughout the west coast of Scotland and knows the mountain ranges well. During March and November, when the skies change dramatically, she feels a strong sense of her isolation surrounded by beauty. She loves the sense of being alone and the freedom that comes from that. In this exhibition she has included her favorite places, and landscapes that inspire her the most.

Shazia spends a great deal of time on location sketching and taking photographs. Back in the studio she paints using various tools including palette knifes, sponges, creating marks that are organic and unplanned. At the same time she works with a precision and a lightness of touch which are also key elements of her creative process.

Shazia has been exhibiting for the past 15 years and has an extensive solo show career, her work is in various collections around the world. Her work is collected from clients from the U.S.A to Newzealand.
